All London Mayors’ Charity Walk

As one of London's most colourful tradition, Lord Mayor of the City of London Nick Anstee will lead the other 32 London Mayors on five-mile charity walk from Dick Whittington Memorial Stone, Highgate Hill, (near Whittington Memorial Hospital, N16) on Sunday morning (11 April).

Picture and TV calls

  • 10.30am - Walk sets off from Dick Whittington (and cat) statue N16 – where Whittington "turned again"
  • 11.45am – The 33 Mayors (in robes and trainers) toast Dick Whittington at Garden pub Upper St, Islington
  • 12.45pm – Bagpipers and horsemen welcome the Mayors into the City near Finsbury Circus

The 37th annual charity fund-raiser for Lord Mayors' Association of London celebrates the City’s most famous son – and gives the London borough mayors a chance to run for their charities.

Lord Mayor Nick Anstee (the first serving Lord Mayor to be running the London Marathon on 25 April) said: 'This Walk is the perfect occasion for all the Mayors to catch up and raise funds for their individual charities. We will tread in the footsteps of Dick Whittington, who held my office and wore my chain in 1397, 1406 and 1419. I am especially glad as I will seize this opportunity to get warmed up for my 17th Marathon in two weeks time - although I won't be wearing my Mayoral robes for that!'

As in previous years, the Mayors in their robes and chains meandering through the streets and heading for the City of London will be an interesting sight for all.
