City of London Corporation donates £25,000 to British Red Cross
emergency aid operation in Haiti
The City of London Corporation, which acts as the local
authority for the Square Mile, has today agreed to donate £25,000
to support the rescue effort in Haiti, following widespread
devastation caused by the earthquake.
The money will be sent direct to the British Red Cross to
relieve suffering in the country which, according to media reports,
is struggling to come to terms with the scale of the disaster.
Nick Anstee, Lord Mayor of the City of London, said: “All of us
in the City have been moved by the widespread destruction and loss
of life in Haiti. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone
affected.”
The City of London Corporation has a history of swift support
for Red Cross appeals, including early gifts to aid appeals,
including Darfur, Zimbabwe and Southern Africa.
