Two new City Sheriffs elected
The annual election of two Sheriffs for the City of London has
taken place today (Thursday 24 June) at Guildhall. The two
candidates, Alderman Fiona Woolf and Richard Sermon, were
elected.
The new Sheriffs will be admitted into office on Tuesday 28
September ready to preside at the Election of the Lord Mayor on
Wednesday 29 September.
The office of Sheriff, a pre-requisite to becoming Lord Mayor,
is one of the oldest in existence and dates back to the Middle
Ages. Biographies of the two newly elected Sheriffs will be
published when they are admitted into office.
