TheCityUK appoints Chris Cummings as its first Chief
Executive
The Board of TheCityUK is pleased to announce the appointment of
Chris Cummings as its first Chief Executive.
Chris Cummings, 42, brings with him extensive financial services
and marketing experience gained at a variety of organisations over
the last 20 years. Since 2005 Chris has been the Director General
of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA), where
he has been instrumental in driving a significant increase in
membership and successfully integrating two other trade bodies into
AIFA. Prior to AIFA, Chris held senior positions in business
development, strategy and marketing at the Association of Mortgage
Intermediaries, Sun Life of Canada and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Chris will be working closely with Stuart Popham, Chairman of
TheCityUK and its Advisory Council of financial services leaders,
which is chaired by Sir Win Bishoff and represents all sectors of
the industry throughout the UK.
Announcing the appointment, Stuart Popham, Chairman of
TheCityUK, said:
“We are delighted to be appointing Chris as TheCityUK’s first
Chief Executive. His financial services and marketing experience
will be invaluable in promoting the industry internationally and
across the UK. Following the successful integration of IFSL into
TheCityUK and our move into new offices on 1st June, the
appointment of Chris completes the picture. TheCityUK is now open
for business.”
Chris Cummings said:

over 1 million people employed in financial services the length and
breadth of the country. The industry is a national asset which will
play a vital role in a sustainable recovery and job creation. “
Chris Cummings will take up the post in August. Until then, John
Ingamells (Deputy Chief Executive) will be acting CEO. In addition,
the Board has appointed Sir Stephen Wright (the Chief Executive of
IFSL) as Special Advisor, with a particular remit to focus on
international aspects of the work streams now underway at
TheCityUK.

TheCityUK
TheCityUK is the new, independent membership body for promoting
the UK-based financial and related professional services
industry.
On 1 June 2010, IFSL was integrated into TheCityUK and IFSL
members transferred to TheCityUK along with its staff.
TheCityUK’s strategic priorities are guided by an Advisory
Council of financial services leaders spanning all sectors of the
industry throughout the UK. The Advisory Council is chaired by Sir
Win Bischoff of Lloyds Banking Group.
The Board of Directors, chaired by Stuart Popham, Senior Partner
at Clifford Chance, is responsible for developing strategy and
overseeing delivery, including the remits and activity of the
organisation’s advisory groups and committees.
TheCityUK will be a the powerful voice for the UK financial
services community working to build a deeper pool of support across
the UK, promoting UK financial services overseas and contributing
to the regulatory and trade policy debate.

and facilitates the contribution of its members to drive and
deliver its priorities.
Its UK-wide membership covers all sectors in financial services
and related professional services. It is independent and
politically neutral.
What they do:
- Overseas promotion - we promote the UK overseas as a world
class centre for financial and related professional services
- Active positioning of the UK as the partner of choice for the
provision of financial services:
broker dialogue between UK practitioners and top-level market
professionals in priority markets; and support emerging
markets to develop infrastructure that allow greater market
access
- UK promotion - we encourage greater understanding of, and
support for, the financial services industry in the UK
- Building understanding about what the financial sector is and
what it does: increasing awareness of what the industry
contributes across the UK; and affirming the relationship
between the financial sector, society and the wider economy
- Regulation and trade - we support industry efforts to work with
government and regulators to ensure that regulatory developments
and trade policy foster free and open markets for our financial
services industry.
