City of London Lord Mayor lays down new challenges for bankers
and politicians
In his speech to 500 leading international bankers at the
Guildhall tonight (Monday), the Lord Mayor of the City of
London, Nick Anstee will urge a new ‘social contract’ between the
City and the UK public and will also challenge politicians to stop
‘banker bashing’.
Addressing the breakdown of trust between the UK public and the
City, Lord Mayor Anstee will also ask politicians to set out a new
vision for the place of the City in the UK, based on
predictability, stability and clarity.
Bankers, too, must work together to engage with Europe,
influence the G20 process and find a way out of the sector’s
currently unproductive relationship with central government, he
will say.
