The Harold Wincott Awards for Financial Journalism and
Broadcasting
The prestigious Wincott awards were presented today at a luncheon
held at Mansion House, in the presence of Sheriff of the City of
London George Gillon.
Sheriff George Gillon said:
"Harold Wincott’s mission was to inject clarity into what was
the exciting world of money making. He took it upon himself to
teach, to encourage and even excite his readers about the City and
finance in general.
"We are honouring today the most outstanding financial
journalists who just like Wincott strive for truth and accuracy and
make it easier for the public to understand complex financial
issues.
"Financial literacy and accurate communications have never been
more important and the City of London is proud to sponsor the
Harold Wincott Awards."
The guest speaker was Rachel Lomax, former deputy governor of
the Bank of England. The awards are named after the distinguished
financial journalist, Harold Wincott, who died in 1969, and have
been made every year since 1970. The press awards, both senior and
junior, have in their time been won by many of the journalists who
are now City Editors.
