New Director take charge of Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery in the City of London

David Bradbury, Director of Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery, has announced his retirement after seven years at the City of London Corporation.

He will be succeeded on 11 May by David Pearson, currently Director of University of London Research Library Services.

During his time in the City of London, David Bradbury has overseen several major innovations, including the unification of the libraries and archives into one department; the refurbishment and modernisation of public areas for many of the Corporation’s archive and library services; and securing funding for the City Business Library to be housed in Guildhall Library.

“I have enjoyed my seven years at the City of London, and I am proud of our achievements, none of which would have been possible without the talent and commitment of my dedicated colleagues. I have known David Pearson for many years and I am delighted that he is taking over from me. He brings excellent skills and experience to the role, which will enable the department to continue to provide outstanding service to its hundreds of thousands of visitors every year”.

“For hundreds of years, the City of London Corporation has taken great care of its cultural heritage, and it continues to invest heavily in services in these areas for present and future generations,” says David Bradbury.

Speaking of his appointment as the new Director of Libraries, Archives and Guildhall Art Gallery, David Pearson said, “I have enjoyed the opportunity to play a leading role in developing ULRLS and I feel that we have achieved many beneficial changes during my five years in post – most particularly, perhaps, the bringing back of universal access to Senate House Library for University members, and ways in which we have been able to enhance access to digital resources. I’m greatly looking forward to starting my new role at the City of London, and to meeting a wide range of new colleagues. The City’s services and collections are hugely important to the life of London and beyond, and I hope I can play a useful part in shaping their future. I wish David all the best for his retirement.”
