From tiny acorns ... Dramatic sculptures grow
A dead oak tree in the play area of Highgate Wood has been
transformed into a three-storey high, dramatic sculpture depicting
woodland birds, animals and insects by artist Dennis Heath.
The sculpture, which has taken four weeks to complete, was
unveiled at Highgate Wood on Thursday 2 April by Chairman of the
Hampstead Heath Management Committee Bob Hall.
He said: "This sculpture is a truly wonderful addition to the play
area at Highgate Wood. I am sure it will be enjoyed by young and
old alike."
A class of children from Highgate Primary also attended the
unveiling.

Notes to editors:
Highgate Wood is owned and managed by the City of London
Corporation. Originally part of the ancient Forest of Middlesex,
Highgate Wood in Haringey covers some 70 acres and came into the
City of London's care in 1886. At the ceremony, the Lord Mayor
declared Highgate Wood' an open space for ever', something for
which subsequent generations of users - both human and animal -
have had cause to be grateful.
