Young and old sharing Golden memories
The Golden Lane Estate celebrates its 50th anniversary this
year. As part of the celebrations, the Estate is holding an
intergenerational event.
‘My Story, Your Story’ will give young people between the ages
of 8 to 14 and people over 50, the opportunity to look at what life
is like in the City for different generations.
The event will be held on Saturday 7 February at the Golden Lane
Community Centre. The event is being organised by the Safer City
Partnership, which includes the City of London Police and the City
of London Corporation, working in conjunction with Magic Me, a
leading provider of intergenerational arts activities.
This event also provides residents with a chance to get to know
their neighbours and produce a photo collage, which will be kept on
the estate as a memento.
Chairman of the Community and Children Services Committee
Kenneth Ayers says: "The Golden Lane Estate has been home to both
young and old for 50 years. This event is a wonderful opportunity
for people to get together and explore different aspects of life on
the Estate over the years. I hope it is a great success."
Community Safety Officer, Jemma Armstrong said: "The Golden Lane
Estate is a landmark development in the City and this event gives
the residents of different age groups a chance to share their
memories and experiences of living on this housing estate."
Residents are being urged to bring any photos of their time in
the City on Tuesday 3 February to the Ralph Perrin Club Room at 12
noon, so that copies can be made before the event itself.
