City of London welcomes Bulgarian Financial Services experts

The City of London Corporation today welcomes 11 financial services experts from Bulgaria at a reception to launch the 2009 City of London Programme. They will gain a unique insiders' view of how London's financial centre works through expert briefings and work placements.

Each year, financial services experts from a new EU Member State or Accession country spend 10 weeks in the City to share best practice in regulation and related matters and create useful contacts.

This year, the City of London is delighted to welcome colleagues from Bulgarian institutions such as the Financial Supervision Commission, Bulgarian Stock Exchange, Bulgarian National Bank, and Ministry of Finance in Bulgaria. They will be placed in institutions such as AIG, Cameron McKenna, the Financial Services Authority, HM Treasury, HSBC, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and JP Morgan.

Sheriff George Gillon, who will host this evening’s event, said: “The City of London Programme is a very effective way of forging new, lasting relationships with our colleagues in Europe. I am delighted to welcome this year’s Bulgarian participants to the City. In these challenging times for the financial services industry, it is more important than ever to share experience and encourage international cooperation.”

HE Mr Steve Williams, British Ambassador to Bulgaria, said: I am delighted that Bulgaria is the partner country for the latest City of London Programme. The eleven Bulgarian delegates from government departments, regulatory agencies and private firms that have been selected to participate in the Programme will have a unique opportunity to gain insights into how the City works and to share best practice in regulation and other issues. I am sure that the personal and corporate friendships and contacts made will prove mutually beneficial in the future.”
