Jerseyman Mark Boleat at the centre of City policy

Jerseyman Mark Boleat, has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee at the City of London Corporation which puts him at the heart of strategy and decision making for the City.

The Policy and Resources Committee leads the policy making process for the City of London Corporation. It is also responsible for the overall allocation of resources between committees in order to ensure that policies and programmes are relevant and support the objective of positioning the City as the pre-eminent financial centre of the world.

Stuart Fraser, Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee, said:

“Mark has absolutely the right experience and skills for this important role for the City of London Corporation. He has an excellent background in financial services which will be invaluable in helping to steer the work of the committee through what will undoubtedly be testing times as we move from a period of crises management to one where we can begin to rebuild the reputation of the industry, both domestically and overseas.”

Mark Boleat, who is currently working on a study of population trends in Jersey, is a company director and consultant. He runs a consultancy specialising in trade associations, housing finance in Africa and regulation. He has undertaken a number of projects for the States, including reviews of housing policy, population policy and consumer policy. Formerly the Director General of the Building Societies Association and the Association of British Insurers, he is currently Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Travelers Insurance Company, Chairman of the Association of Labour Providers, Vice Chair of the Association of Charitable Foundations and a member of the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.

He has been a Councillor in the City since 2002 and is also Chairman of the Markets Committee which has responsibility for the Billingsgate, Smithfield and Spitalfields Markets. Other committees he serves on include Planning and Transportation, Police and the City Bridge Trust. He represents the City on the City of London Citizens Advice Bureau and the Sir John Cass’s Foundation.

Mark Boleat takes over as Deputy Chairman from Sir Michael Snyder, who was formerly Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee.
