Two Sheriffs elected

The results of the poll held today at Guildhall to elect Sheriffs for 2009-2010 are as follows:

  • COOK, Peter Joseph   Votes cast:  1199
  • OLIVER, Timothy Patrick Camroux  Votes cast: 689
  • WOOTTON, Alderman David Hugh  Votes cast: 1711

The two candidates with the highest number of votes cast are therefore elected and will be admitted into office on Friday 25 September ready to preside at the Election of the Lord Mayor on Tuesday 29 September.

The office of Sheriff of is one of the oldest in existence and dates back to the Middle Ages and is a pre-requisite to becoming Lord Mayor. Biographies of the two newly elected Sheriffs will be published when they are admitted into office.
