The 36th annual All London Mayors’ Charity Walk

As one of London’s most colourful tradition, City of London Lord Mayor Ian Luder leads the other 30 London Mayors on five-mile charity walk from Dick Whittington Memorial Stone, Highgate Hill, (near Whittington Memorial Hospital, N16) on Sunday morning (19 April).

PICTURE /TV CALLS:

  • 10.30am - Walk sets off from Dick Whittington (and cat) statue N16 – where Whittington “turned again”
  • 11.45am – The 31 Mayors (in robes and trainers) toast Dick Whittington at Islington Town Hall, Upper St, Islington
  • 12.45pm – Bagpipers and horsemen welcome the Mayors into the City near Finsbury Circus

The 36th annual charity fund-raiser for the London Mayors' Association celebrates the City’s famous son – Dick Whittington - and gives the London borough mayors and chance to catch up on each others’ boroughs.

Lord Mayor Ian Luder said: "It is a splendid opportunity to get all the London Mayors out of their offices on a Sunday Walk for their individual charities. We will retrace the journey taken by our Mayoral ancestor, Dick Whittington, who held my office and wore my chain in 1397, 1406 and 1419.

"Whittington really was an excellent role model. Not only did he leave all his wealth to charity, he built almshouses, a hospital for single mothers; drinking fountains and even a 64 seat public loo! "

Bagpipers from the Green Hackle band will meet the Mayors half way and horsemen will welcome them into the City where the walk ends. On completion, all the Mayors will be presented with certificates at the Mansion House.

As in previous years, the Mayors in their robes and chains meandering through the streets and heading for the City of London will be an interesting sight for all.
