Mowgli leaves jungle behind for Wanstead Park
Mowgli will swap the Indian jungle for the grounds of The Temple,
Wanstead Park when an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle
Book takes place on Saturday, 29 August.
Experienced touring company Illyria are putting on an open-air
performance of The Mowgli Stories, which uses an ensemble chorus,
masks, puppetry and song to recreate the vivid world of Kipling's
tale.
Wanstead Park, part of Epping Forest, is a listed historic
landscape and offers a picturesque background to an afternoon’s
entertainment as light fades over the replanted formal avenue, the
bats fly across the ornamental waters and the noise of London
traffic drifts into the distance.
Chairman of the Epping Forest Committee Barbara Newman at the
City of London said: “Illyria always delivers the highest standards
of entertainment and I am delighted they are returning again to
Wanstead Park this year. I am sure it will be a magical evening of
fun for both young and old.”
Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, a bottle and chairs
to make the most of the Bank Holiday Saturday event.
Tickets, which start from £1.95, can be purchased online or
via the Epping Forest Visitor Centre – Tel 020 8508 0028. Gates
open at 2pm, with the performance scheduled to run from 3pm to
5pm.

Notes to editors
Epping Forest
Epping Forest, a major public open space and a site of
international importance for its cultural and wildlife value, is
owned and managed by the City of London. Since the 1870’s it has
had a policy of protecting open spaces for the enjoyment of
Londoners. This policy was subsequently adopted by central and
local government and the Green Belt was born.
