Islington Academy students celebrate exam success

Students from the City of London Academy Islington celebrated success in their GCSE results this week as grades across the board rose significantly in the first year of the Academy. The two top performing students, Mohammed Al-Sakban and Arnold Duralliu achieved at total of 18 As and A*s between them.

Ann Palmer, Principal at the Academy said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the progress students have made this year and our results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of all our students and teachers. We look forward to the new Academy building which is due to open next year, which I am sure will only serve to enhance these results further."

Richard Regan, Chairman of Governors at the Academy said: "Congratulations all round to the pupils and staff who have achieved these excellent results. They demonstrate that the Academy is offering good quality education and we look forward to it going from strength to strength over the next few years."

Breakdown of GCSE results: Students achieving 5+ A* - C, including English and Maths rose by 8% (31% to 39%); Students achieving grades 5+ A* - C - rose by 6% from the predecessor school to 55%; Students achieving 5+ A* - G rose by 7% to 93%; About the Academy: The Academy is a mixed Academy for students aged 11 to 16 years (11 – 18 from 2010). There are approximately 845 students at the Academy. The student population is rich in cultural and linguistic diversity with over 40 different languages being spoken.
