City of London Corporation in "premier league" in Audit
Commission assessment
The City of London has been highly praised in a new Audit
Commission assessment for its local authority services covering
both its work with others and its own services.
Stuart Fraser, elected Chairman of the Policy and Resources
Committee, said, "The City is a unique place and one that prides
itself on achieving excellence so it is very gratifying to see this
recognised in the Area Assessment report. This assessment of how
the City Corporation and its partners work for the benefit of all
our communities highlights our success in making the City a good
place to live, work and do business."
In the report published today (December 9) the City is
particularly praised for its efforts on 'Culture for Everyone' and
'Supporting small businesses and local communities across borough
boundaries' for which it has been awarded two green flags.
The Audit Commission report says "excellent support is given to
business in the City to help it flourish and remain the world
leader in international finance and business services" and that the
City "is an outstanding place for culture and leisure".
The Organisational Assessment report awards the City of London
Corporation a score of 'performing excellently' for the provision
of its local authority services.
Chris Duffield, Town Clerk and Chief Executive, said, "I am
pleased with this endorsement which once again places the City of
London Corporation amongst the top performing authorities in
England."
The City of London has also been judged as performing
excellently under the new annual ratings of the services and
support provided to children by Ofsted. The ratings look at the
performance of England’s 152 local authorities and provide a
wide-ranging assessment of all the children’s services a council is
responsible for, either alone or in partnership with other
agencies, and the differences they are making to children’s
lives.
The City of London Corporation sustains and promotes the
UK-based financial services industry whose heart is the Square Mile
geographical area for which the City Corporation provides local
authority services. It also provides a number of special services
for London and the UK (see notes below).
