City of London Corporation response to report on the UK’s competitiveness as a global financial centre

Stuart Fraser, Chairman of Policy of the City of London Corporation commented on the report by Alistair Darling and Win Bischoff:

“Today’s report is a valuable contribution to the ongoing debate about how to rebuild the City for the UK’s prosperity.   I particularly welcome the report’s long term perspective – it is important to focus on the UK’s enduring strengths in financial services as we prepare for the recovery.”

“I welcome the report’s vision of a permanent, practitioner-led, politically neutral, strategic and cross-sectoral single body to promote the UK’s financial services industry in the UK and internationally.

The City of London Corporation is working with partners to establish a strong single voice for the UK’s financial services industry. This forum is being shaped by a Steering Group chaired by Stuart Popham (Senior Partner, Clifford Chance LLP) and will be launched later this year. I look forward to working closely with HM Treasury, UKTI, industry trade bodies and practitioners across the industry on this venture.”
