City leaders visit Stockholm for talks ahead of Swedish EU
Presidency
Leaders of the City of London Corporation will meet top
representatives of Sweden’s financial services industry,
politicians and regulators in Stockholm on Friday 17 April. The
City of London Corporation acts as the local authority for the
‘Square Mile’, London’s financial centre, and supports the City’s
position as a world leading financial centre.
The Lord Mayor of the City of London Ian Luder,
Chairman of Policy of the City of London Corporation Stuart
Fraser and Chairman of the EU Advisory Group of the City
of London Corporation Andre Villeneuve will
discuss the priorities for the Swedish Presidency of the European
Union, which begins on 1 July 2009.
Lord Mayor Ian Luder, an eminent tax accountant at Grant
Thornton LLP, said:
“This year could be make-or-break for Europe’s financial
services industry. We are launching the most fundamental reform of
European financial regulation for a generation – so all of Europe
will be looking to Sweden for strong leadership.”
Stuart Fraser, Chairman of Policy of the City of
London Corporation, said:
“Sweden clearly has some valuable lessons to offer
Europe on handling banking crises, following its experiences in the
1990s. So I am looking forward to a highly productive and
worthwhile visit.”
The delegation will meet Urban Karlström, State
Secretary for Financial Markets, Lars Nyberg,
Deputy Governor of the Swedish Riksbank and member of the de
Larosière Group, Martin Andersson, Director
General, Swedish Financial Services Authority and Bo
Lundgren, Director General, Swedish National Debt Office.
They will meet senior representatives of the business community at
a Breakfast meeting hosted by the British Swedish Chamber of
Commerce.
