Three secrets of the City of London Corporation raise over £1,400 for children’s charity in Evening Standard auction

Three opportunities to see behind-the-scenes at the City of London Corporation have raised £1,466 for London children’s charity Greenhouse through the Evening Standard’s Christmas Auction.

The auction closed at noon today, 15 December, with generous Evening Standard readers bidding for the three unique opportunities offered.

The chance to raise Tower Bridge fetched £795; a tour of the Old Bailey with the Secondary of London Charles Henty sold for £411; and a behind-the-scenes peek at the exotic animals at the Animal Reception Centre at Heathrow Airport made £260.

All three “London Specials” are part of the unusual range of services run by the City of London Corporation, the historic body with a modern main purpose to sustain and look after the Square Mile business district around St Paul’s.

Greenhouse was founded by-City high flier Michael de Giorgio after he sold his financial consultancy, Portman Consultants, in 2002. Greenhouse supports disadvantaged London children by giving them opportunities to take part in sports and performing arts. Greenhouse works with 7,000 children in some of London’s most deprived areas.
