City of London Corporation welcomes staff of new Academy in
Islington
Staff of the new City of London Academy Islington were welcomed
by the City of London Corporation at a reception at the Guildhall
Art Gallery last week.
The Academy joins the City of London’s family of schools
including City of London Academy Southwark, City of London
Freemen’s School, City of London School and City of London School
for Girls. It is sponsored by the City of London Corporation and
City University London and opened in September 2008. A third City
of London Academy, co-sponsored by KPMG, is planned to open in
Hackney in 2009.
Speaking at the event on Thursday 9 October, Chair of Governors
Deputy Richard Regan said:
“We have the opportunity to turn our Academy into an icon of
education for the future. Our vision is that every child and
young person will have the opportunity to reach their full
potential with the commitment of each of us involved in this
venture.”
Ann Palmer, Principal at The City of London Academy Islington
says:
“We are pleased to have the City of London Corporation and City
University London as sponsors as they both have long and successful
track records in providing high-quality educational services to
their local communities and reflect the Academy’s specialist status
in business and enterprise.”
Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee of the City of
London Stuart Fraser said:
“We must always keep an eye on the future, and it is important
not to abandon the City’s long-term support for the skills
infrastructure of the Square Mile and its neighbours. And so at a
time of global financial crisis, and a darkening economic sky, this
work has never been so vital.”
