Lady Mayoress visits West Ham Park

On Thursday 28 June, the Lady Mayoress of the City of London, Lesley Stuttard, visited West Ham Park accompanied by Sheriff Richard Regan, his wife Anne Regan, and Theresa Lewis.

West Ham Park is a 77 acre park in the London Borough of Newham. It has been owned and managed by the City of London since 1874 making the Park its oldest open space.

Here they were introduced to the Superintendent of West Ham Park, James McCulloch. He escorted them through the terrace garden to the Rose Garden where the Lady Mayoress planted a Davidia Involucrata, more commonly known as a Handkerchief Tree, to commemorate the visit.

The visit continued with a performance of a scene from A Midsummer Nights Dream by year six children from Selwyn Primary School. After the performance, the Mayoress met the children, Aziza Patel, Rokiyah Ibrahim, Sunraj Bolina and Joshua Reeves, who will be performing the play from 10-12 of July in the park.
The visit concluded with an informal tour of the nursery, birthplace of most of the bedding plants that grace the Park and decorate the City’s many gardens, where the Mayoress was presented with a bouquet of blooms from the nursery.
