Guided Walk: The Superintendent’s Perambulation – 125th Anniversary of Queen Victoria’s visit to Epping Forest
Meeting place to be confirmed upon booking

The Superintendent of Epping Forest, Mat Roberts, will lead a special guided walk from Chingford to High Beach on Sunday 6 May to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Queen Victoria's visit to Epping Forest.

The royal visit to Epping Forest on 6 May 1882 was a momentous occasion witnessed by an estimated 500,000 people. Queen Victoria formally declared Epping Forest open, following the Epping Forest Act of 1878, announcing: "It gives me the greatest satisfaction to dedicate this beautiful Forest to the use and enjoyment of my people for all time."

The walk will start in Chingford at 4.00pm and will finish at High Beach; return transport from High Beach to Chingford will be organised. This is a free event. As places are limited, booking is required. Please telephone the Epping Forest Visitor Centre on 020 8508 0028 or email to book your place and obtain further details.

The Superintendent of Epping Forest, Mat Roberts, said: “I’m really looking forward to leading my first perambulation in Epping Forest, and hope that it will be the first of many. The 125th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s historic visit to the Forest provides a wonderful occasion to celebrate and the opportunity to walk a very popular route from Chingford to High Beach.”
