Experience the dawn chorus on Hampstead Heath
The City of London invites you to join the International Dawn
Chorus Day Walk from 5.00am to 7.00am on Sunday 6 May, starting at
the Parliament Hill Staff yard, Hampstead Heath.
May is perhaps the most exciting month in Hampstead Heath’s
natural calendar. All the summer migrants have arrived, birds are
busily feeding young, trees are in leaf and flowers are bursting
open everywhere. The City of London wants regular and new visitors
to experience the Heath’s great natural beauty.
To help maintain and improve this special natural character, the
City of London has produced the draft Hampstead Heath Management
Plan and as well as encouraging visitors to the Heath, it also
urges people to comment on the draft plan during the month of
May.
Bob Hall, Chairman of the Hampstead Heath Management Committee,
said: "The habitats that support the plethora of birds on the Heath
need managing and our new draft plan makes suggestions as to how to
do this.
"When the Heath looks as stunning as it does in May, I think it
is appropriate that people should be encouraged to give us their
views on how we can make improvements in the future."
The draft plan suggests how the Heath can provide an improving
resource for wildlife, public access, education, sports and
informal public use.
The consultation process runs until 20 May. The City wants to
hear from as many people as possible with their views on the draft
Management Plan, including all age groups and even those who
currently don’t use the Heath but would like to.
