Double honours for City of London
Douglas Mobsby, a Member of the Court of Common Council, was one
of two City figures honoured by Her Majesty the Queen on her
official birthday yesterday.
Mr Mobsby received a MBE for “services to Local Government in
the City of London and to the community in the South East.” Now a
Senior Partner at Pothecary & Barratt, a solicitors practice in
the City, Mr Mobsby has worked in the City since he received his
degree from University College of London in 1957.
Elected by the Ward of Billingsgate in 1985 and serving as
Deputy, Mr Mobsby is a veteran of the City. He serves on over ten
committees at the Court, and is deeply involved with the City of
London Freemen’s School, one of three secondary schools provided by
the City of London. At the School, he chairs the Bursary Committee
and is Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors. He is also a
representative for the City of London YMCA, member of The Law
Society, and member of the Association of Governing Bodies of
Independent Schools.
Also distinguished was City of London Police Commissioner
Michael Bowron, who was awarded a QPM (Queen’s Police Medal).
Commissioner Bowron joined the City of London Police in 2002 as
Deputy Commissioner and now leads operational policing. Under his
leadership, the City Police has recently become the national lead
police force on economic fraud, spearheading the Attorney General’s
anti-fraud initiative.
Commissioner Bowron can boast both experience and variety in his
career as a police officer. He began over 25 years ago as a
constable in Sussex, and has since helped to reform police forces
in Czechoslovakia and Indonesia. He is also the spokesperson for
the Association of Chief Police Officers’ Media Advisory Group,
commenting on issues such as the Iraq War or Fire Brigade
strikes.
Commissioner Bowron graduated from Police Staff College,
Bramshill and Sussex University.
