City welcomes plans to extend City of London Police’s role in
tackling fraud
The City of London Corporation welcomes the Government’s recent
announcement of a package of anti-fraud measures.
The Attorney General announced last week (15 March) that a
National Fraud Strategic Authority is to be established and that
the Government is to support extending the remit of the City of
London Police making it the national lead force on fraud.
Keith Knowles, Chairman of the City’s Police Committee,
said:
"The decision to increase the City of London Police's role in
tackling fraud is recognition of the Police's successful work as
the lead force for fraud in the South-East.
"The City of London looks forward to working with the
Government, the police and business community to continue to tackle
fraud and economic crime."
The City’s Policy Chairman Michael Snyder said: “The City of
London Corporation is committed to serving the needs of
international business and maintaining an environment in which
organisations and companies from all over the world can play their
part in financing global trade and development.
“Stability is vital to a thriving Business City and the need to
combat fraud and economic crime is at the heart of this.
“We have supported this review throughout and believe that
working in partnership to establish a national resource to combat
fraud is, in our view, an essential step forward. “
