City signs up to Local Area Agreement
The City of London Corporation has signed a three-year Local
Area Agreement, pledging to improve a number of its services that
it provides for Square Mile residents and businesses as well as a
range of services it provides to London and the UK.
The agreement has been signed with central government and The
City Together – the City’s local strategic partnership who has
representatives from the City Corporation, City Police, the Health
sector, the Voluntary and Community sector, Faith sector, Education
sector, Cultural sector, Environment sector, Transport sector and
from City businesses, City workers and City residents. This
partnership, through the City of London Community Strategy sets the
strategic objectives and priorities for the City.
Running from 2007 until 2010, the agreement sets a series of
targets to be achieved on a wide range of issues including children
and young people, health, older people, inward investment and
building a safer and stronger community within the City of
London.
The City Corporation has also agreed to “overachieve, or
stretch” on some of these targets, and has been awarded a grant of
£731,928 to enable it to put in action new initiatives to help
support the achievement of these targets. If it achieves these
“stretch” targets by 2010, the City will receive an additional
£2.7million, which will be invested back into its strategic
objective areas.
