City of London praises Pakistan-India unity over terror
attacks
The City of London, whose Lord Mayor who has just returned from
a business visit to Pakistan and leads a delegation to India in
May, has praised political leaders for their response to the train
bombing that has killed at least 66.
Lord Mayor Stuttard said: “Pakistan and India are on course for
greater prosperity for their peoples and the leaders of both
countries are right not to be deflected by this mindless terror
attack.
“All of us stand together against the despicable terrorist who
destroys lives and disrupts the efforts of citizens going about
their business, working for their families and future.”
Michael Snyder, the City Policy and Resources Chairman who is
currently in Mumbai leading high-level meetings on India-London
cooperation, said the unity of the two regional governments made it
more likely that foreign investment in both fast-growing economies
would continue despite the terror attacks:
“Terrorism is a worldwide problem that businesses can work
around if they are confident it is being addressed by governments
backed by a public that desires long-term solutions based on mutual
respect and benefit.”
The Lord Mayor is the elected head of the City of London, the
world’s leading international financial services centre. His visit
to Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore in early February is followed by a
visit to New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore in mid-May.
Michael Snyder, who leads for the City on policy issues, has
overseen the recent policy of City of London offices in Mumbai –
and also China – to forge deeper links between the international
financial communities.
