City in Bloom

The City of London Corporation is calling on Square Mile businesses, residents and community groups to enter the first ever City in Bloom awards. The people and companies behind the very best window boxes, planters and gardens in the City will be recognised for their contribution to making the City a green and pleasant place in which to live, visit and do business.

Any green space from large community gardens to small window box displays can enter. The only criteria are that they must be clearly visible to the passing public and be located within the Square Mile.

The award categories include best business premises, best front garden and a Biodiversity Award for creating suitable wildlife habitats. Winners of each category will be entered into London in Bloom and ultimately the national Britain in Bloom awards.

The City of London, which owns and manages over 150 gardens, churchyards, parks and plazas across the Square Mile, was last year named London in Bloom’s Champion of Champions.

For more information, or to enter the City in Bloom competition, please see the web page or contact the City Gardens Team on 0207 374 4127 or email.

City Parks and Gardens:
The City of London manages over 150 gardens, churchyards, parks and plazas across the Square Mile for the benefit of the City’s residents, workers and visitors.

Many of the older gardens in the City have their own unique history. The rotunda garden at West Smithfield lies over an area which in ancient times was used for jousts, tournaments and executions. Finsbury Circus is the oldest public park in London, dating from 1606, and Postmans Park is home to the famous Watts Memorial, which celebrates Londoners who gave their lives saving others.
