For hundreds of years, Hampstead Heath has provided a welcome
respite from city life, and has received strong support from its
neighbours, including Hampstead Garden Suburb. As guardians of the
Heath since 1989, the City of London Corporation has sought to
further strengthen these links. So when the opportunity arose to
help the Suburb celebrate 100 years since the first clod of earth
was dug for the site, the City was very happy to help. The City is
providing not only the location – Golders Hill Park – but also the
entertainment and staff, technical and first aid support to ensure
24 June 2007 is a day to remember.
Lord Mayor Stuttard said: “The City of London is grateful for
all the support it receives from the neighbours of Hampstead Heath.
The creation of the Heath as we know it today, particularly the
Extension, is inextricably linked to the development of Hampstead
Garden Suburb. Thus we are delighted to help the Suburb celebrate
its centenary with this family day out.”
Councillor Braun said: “I am delighted Barnet is working closely
with our friends in the City to make this happy occasion a great
success.”
“I hope many residents of Barnet will join me in enjoying what
promises to be a wonderful afternoon for all the family.”
