City honours super sweeper
Peter Ward has been named the Sweeper of
the Year for 2006 / 7 at the City of London’s Clean City
Awards ceremony at the Guildhall.
Peter has been cleaning the streets in the Square Mile since
2002 and has been involved in the clean-up operation for the annual
Lord Mayor’s Show, the London Marathon and many other events that
take place in the City throughout the year.
The Chairman of the City of London’s Port Health and
Environmental Services Committee, John Brewster OBE, said: “Peter
has shown himself to be professional in what he does, no matter
what the task involves and is an understated asset to any
workforce. He is highly regarded by both the City of London
Corporation, the MRS management team and his fellow peers.”
The Clean City Awards Scheme is a City of London initiative, in
partnership with the business community, to reduce unsafe and
unsightly waste on the streets of the Square Mile, and to drive the
practices of reduction, reuse and recycling of waste.
The City of London Corporation spends £3.5million a year
cleaning the City’s streets and has twice won the ‘Britain’s
Cleanest City’ award.
