In response to the effect of the severe weather conditions
earlier in the year The Department for Transport (DfT) allocated
extra funding to help highway authorities to repair potholes and
other road damage. This funding was the result of savings
which were indentified in the DfT budget for 2010/11.
The total amount of extra funding for local highway authorities
in England and Wales was £200M and represents a significant extra
investment in highway maintenance based on the capital funding
formula which takes into account the road length and condition for
local authority.
The City of London received £47,556 as part of the above extra
funding and a programme of inspections and repairs were
implemented. The repair works to the highway were managed by the
City of London’s Department of Environmental Services and works
undertaken by its Highway Maintenance Term Contractor, F M Conway
Ltd. This funding supplemented the £100,000 of pothole repair
works that were previously carried out and funded from the City of
London's own maintenance budgets.
