As part of the maintenance of City streets, the City of London
carries out an annual resurfacing programme.
The City of London schedules every street in the Square Mile a
year that it is due to be resurfaced. When a street becomes due for
resurfacing it is inspected and, if it is found to be in a
condition necessitating action, it is added to that year's
programme. Each year around 30 streets are resurfaced.
In order to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses
and road users, works are often carried out at night-time or at
weekends. The working times, determined in liaison with the City
Police, Environmental Office and London Buses, are shown in the
programme.
The programme for 2006 July - December is now available and
will be regularly updated as the works progress. The following
table lists the streets being resurfaced this year. For
convenience, the programme has been split into monthly
sections.
In the charts blue indicates night work and yellow is day work
and in addition the nature of the work is indicated as follows:
PS stands for Planing Surfaces. This means that the old surfaces
are removed and then renewed and this work will result in the
complete closure of the carriageway concerned.
B stands for Iron Works. This means making minor adjustments to
openings in the carriageway such as gullies and will result in only
limited interruption to the traffic flow.
