This once-in-a lifetime opportunity will offer Londoners the
chance to present the capital as a vibrant, modern city that will
provide a welcoming and unforgettable experience to all visitors.
Hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will
undoubtedly bring benefits to London, particularly through
regeneration, and will leave a lasting legacy. The City welcomes and
fully supports the London 2012 Games and the benefits that they
will bring.
In partnership with others, the City is working to ensure the
Games are a great success. During Games time, the City will sparkle
and will be showcased as a fantastic place in which to visit, work
and live. Tower Bridge will be an amazing focal point with a great
new energy efficient lighting scheme. Also, a wide variety of
cultural and sporting activities will be taking place to help build
the excitement leading to the 2012 Games.
During and after the Games the City will be the centre for
London’s civic and ceremonial welcome to the world – hosting a
variety of events that will include Heads of State, dignitaries,
Games agencies and athletes and the world’s media. Day-to-day life
in the City will continue, with different arrangements to ensure
services will continue to be delivered. ‘Business as unusual’ is
how London is approaching both preparation and duration of the
