The marriage bonds and allegations and wills which are contained
within London Signatures are now available in our databases
on Ancestry.co.uk. The London Metropolitan
Archives databases on Ancestry are free to use if you visit us or
by subscription if you wish to use the databases at home.
Please note that London Signatures will be withdrawn from these
webpages this summer.
London Signatures, the essential service for family historians and
anyone interested in the history of London and Londoners, has just
got even bigger and better.
As well as the original index of 10,000 wills from the
Archdeaconry Court of Middlesex, an additional 23,500 marriage
bonds from the Commissary for the Archdeaconry of Surrey have been
added to the index, which is searchable
for free online. You can also purchase a
digital copy of any will or marriage bond directly from the web,
for just £4.70 inc VAT.
To see a sample of what you can buy, check the
London signatures FAQs. You should check this out before
deciding to buy a will or marriage bond, because old handwriting
may be difficult to read. There may be other questions that our
FAQs can answer before you use the service.
Please note that all the wills and marriage bonds on London
Signatures are Black & White copies to speed download times. We
do not have colour copies available through this service. You
should also note that we only include the back of the document
if it includes significant information which is not included in the
main body of the will or marriage bond itself.
To receive your copy of a will or marriage bond you need to
register as
a site user. This will allow you to log on and pay through a
secure online facility. After paying, you will be sent an email
with a link to a specific URL, where you will be able to download
your chosen will.
Search the index and buy a digital copy of one
our wills or marriage bonds.
