History of the Mansion House
Built in the age of Hogarth, the Mansion House is a rare
surviving Georgian town palace in central London. It was
originally built to enable the Lord Mayor to represent the City in
appropriate style; it also acts as a symbol of the City of London
as the world’s leading international financial and trading
centre.
Although the Mansion House has undergone several redevelopments
since it was built in 1758, it retains much of its original
character. For a more complete history of the Mansion House please
