'Social Housing' is a
general name for affordable homes provided by councils and
Registered Social Landlords. Registered Social Landlords are
generally Housing Associations but can include other
organisations providing affordable homes such as Housing
Co-operatives.
The housing situation in City
Households wishing to live in council or housing association
homes must first of all apply to register on the City of London
Housing Register.
There are a large number of households on the City of London's
Housing Register and the Council is not able to offer a home to
everybody who applies. Many people face a long wait for social
housing and people with lower housing needs may not be rehoused at
all. Because there are far more people seeking council and housing
association homes than available homes the City of London operates
a policy to ensure that the people in greatest need get housed
first.
At the moment housing need is assessed using a points system based
on your household's conditions and health problems. Homes are
offered to households with the highest number of points.

Assessment' and get a general idea whether or not it is worthwhile

Registered Social Landlords
Registered Social Landlords, or Housing Associations are
non-profit making bodies providing housing. Professional staff are
employed to manage their day to day business. Registered Social
Landlords must be registered with the Housing Corporation which
oversees and monitors their activities.
Registered Social Landlords offer a wide variety of housing which
might either be newly built or older housing that has been
converted.
Registered Social Landlords share the common aim of seeking to help
those in the greatest housing need. Registered Social Landlords
work alongside the City of London Corporation to house households
with the greatest housing need from the City of London Housing
Register. Most Registered Social Landlords do not accept direct
applications from members of the public.
