What is resident
involvement?
Resident involvement is designed to give tenants more say in the
decisions that affect their homes. It encourages tenants to give
feedback and become actively involved in housing issues, for
example, repairs, security and other items which may affect them
directly. It is also concerned with giving leaseholders
opportunities to be consulted. Finally, it is about all residents
coming together in their local community to increase community
spirit and support.
What does 'getting
involved' actually mean?
This is up to you. Have a look at our
how to get Involved page and see which
suits you. If you would like to know more please contact the
Resident Involvement Team at
resident.involvement@cityoflondon.gov.uk or
on 020 7332 3224 / 3916.
How much work will it
be?
This depends. If you want to turn up to meetings or fill in surveys
and give your views that’s fine and won’t require much of your
time. Being a Chairperson or Secretary of a group would be more
work. However, no one will pressure you into doing more than
you wish to do, and it is our job to support you. The best part is
that you don't need any experience! We will teach you the
skills you need.
Where are meetings
held in the City of London?
This depends on the subject, but whenever possible, residents will
be asked for suggestions. If the meeting involves a particular area
then the meeting will be held as near to that area as possible. If
it concerns a general issue, the meeting will be held at a suitable
venue and parking, transport and safety will be taken into
account.
When are meetings held with
the City of London?
Again, residents will be consulted. However, as a rule:
- Evening meetings will usually take place on a weekday evening
anytime between 6pm and 8pm
- Daytime meetings are flexible to suit residents.
- And how can I get there?
By Car - we can send you directions
By Bus - we can send you a bus timetable for the bus
you need to get.
It may be possible to pay travel expenses. Please contact the
Resident Involvement Team, before you make arrangements at
resident.involvement@cityoflondon.gov.uk.
Can't I leave it to
someone else?
You cannot rely on others to give your opinion. If everyone did
this we would not know anyone’s views. Make sure we know what you
think.
I don’t know
anyone
The first time you come to a meeting you may not know anyone and be
worried about coming into a room of strangers. Contact the
Resident Involvement Team before hand and we can arrange for
someone to meet you outside. Also remember that some of the others
won’t know anyone and that it will be a good opportunity to meet
new people.
Are the meetings
friendly?
Yes. All we ask is that you are polite to each other and remember
that people are entitled to their views. Respect is very
important.
What help can I
get?
The Resident Involvement staff will be happy to advise at
resident.involvement@cityoflondon.gov.uk.
As a home owner, who do I
contact for information regarding resident
involvement?
If you live on one of the City of London’s estates, you will
automatically be a member of your local residents' association if
your area has one. If not, you can help to form one if you
wish. Contact the Resident Involvement Team at
resident.involvement@cityoflondon.gov.uk.
for more details.
What will I get out of being
involved?
This largely depends on you. There will be
the opportunity to meet new people, make sure your opinions are
heard and work with others to try to improve the area in which you
live. You will get out of it as much as you put in!
