City of London Keyworker Housing Options
The City of London has nomination rights to an affordable
housing scheme to help single people who are keyworkers in the City
of London square mile. This project is called Nile Street.
If you are a keyworker in another area of London, see the
information below regarding First Steps, who are the pan-London
providers for other affordable housing schemes.
Who is a key worker?
To qualify as a Key Worker you must work in one of the following
sectors within the Square Mile.
- Emergency Services
- Health
- Education
- Public Transport
- Local Government
- Prison and Probation staff
How do I register?
Housing application forms are available from the Housing Needs
Team based at Barbican Estate Office or by telephoning
020 7332 1237. If you meet the above criteria, your name will be
placed on our list of keyworkers requiring housing. We can then
nominate you for our own housing and also nominate you to our small
keyworker housing scheme at Nile Street (Provost Street) which is a
small block of modern studio flats run by Peabody housing
associations.
If you work in the City but not in one of the public sectors
above you can still register for Council housing and Nile Street,
but priority will given here to "City Keyworkers".
Applicants who owe the City of London rent or service charges
for a residential property that they have previously lived in
cannot join the register. Special conditions apply to those who own
their home. Please contact the Housing Needs team if this
applies to you.
