TRACES (TRAde Control and Export System)

You must complete Part 1 of the CVED online using the TRACES system. This is a integrated computerised veterinary system used for notifying Member States of movements of animal and products of animal origin that are entering the EU or transiting within, by entering into it the CVED data.

All Member States were required to use the TRACES system for all imports of products of animal origin from 31 December 2004 as required by Commission Decision 2005 / 515 / EC.

The following files can be downloaded to help you register on TRACES and to enter the information in Part 1 of the CVED. As from 29 January 2011, you will be able to select a better commodity description within TRACES and also enter multiple CN Codes, more information can be found in the TRACES Release Note below. Import Certificates validated in the exporting country can easily be cloned to generate the CVED, see guidelines below.

Further information about TRACES can also be found on the business link website, for support in using TRACES you should contact the Chelmsford Animal Health Office (01245 454860) or by email.

After the CVED has been completed online and printed out, the signed CVED together with original certificates relating to the consignment must then be presented to the Port Health Authority for endorsement.

After the completion of the veterinary checks the OVS or the OFI will sign Part 2 of the CVED indicating the checks carried out and the outcome of them.

If the checks have been satisfactory, the consignment will be allowed to enter the EU, otherwise the consignment will have to be re-dispatched outside the EU, destroyed or in exceptional circumstances, transformed.

The person responsible for the load must make sure that a CVED has been issued before removing the consignment from the BIP.

If you are importing processed wool, feathers, hides & skins or hunting trophies through the Tilbury or Thamesport BIPs, please complete our Importer's Declaration and forward it to the BIP where the consignment is being imported through. Download a copy of the Importer's Declaration (132kb)

An invoice will be raised after the CVED has been issued, the current charges can be found on our charges page. Customers have the option of paying the City of London's invoice online, see Paying your bill online.
