Composite products for human consumption not subject to veterinary checks

A composite product is defined in EU legislation as a foodstuff intended for human consumption that contains both processed products of animal origin and products of plant origin.

In general, composite products that contain less than than 50 percent of processed product of animal origin are not subject to veterinary checks, providing they meet the requirements of Article 6 of Commission Decision 2007/275/EC.

The FSA has published detailed guidance on its website including a summary of the requirements of Article 6.

The DEFRA website can also provide further information and advice and specific import licence application forms can also be downloaded. Alternatively, you can email DEFRA at iah-imports@defra.gsi.gov.uk with specific enquiries.
