The Child Protection Service is the responsibility of the
Children's Team who ensure all children and young people in
the City are safe and protected from harm.
If you suspect ill treatment of a child or young person, or if
you are being hurt or abused contact us on 020 7332 3621 to
speak to a social worker or email
social.services@cityoflondon.gov.uk.
Where concern has been expressed about an individual, social
workers must look into what is happening and make enquiries to
check that the child is safe. We will try to work in partnership
with parents and carers and keep them involved in what is
happening.

Child Protection Performance
Following the reports of the Laming enquiry into the death of
Victoria Climbie and the Serious Case Review into the death of Baby
Peter the need for Council's to focus on child protection was
highlighted.
After the Lord Laming report was completed the Secretary of
State for Health wrote to all Chief Executives. He
stated the need for Councils to be satisfied that
appropriate arrangements were in place to ensure quality of
service to children in need and in particular, those children in
need of protection. The second serious case review of Baby Peter
also highlighted this need.
City of London Rated Excellent
In the latest Ofsted inspection, published in December 2010 the
City of London Corporation's Child Protection Service was
given a rating of 'Excellent'. To get this rating an
organisation must 'significantly exceed requirements'. In
relation to child protection the inspection found 'significant
strengths' and 'no areas in need of priority action'.
