Guide to parking for disabled people in the City

The main entrance at Silk Street has automatic doors and a
gentle slope ( 1:34 ) to a bridge link to the Ground floor foyer
(level 0) and the main lifts which serve all floors. There are a
number of wheelchair accessible toilets throughout the building and
all facilities are accessible. Wide parking bays for blue badge
holders are available in car parks 3 and 5 and both car parks can
be accessed from Silk Street . There is level sign-posted access
from Car Parks 3 and 5. Hearing assistance facilities are available
in all venues; concert hall, theatres, cinemas. Further information

The City of London has installed dropped kerbs and raised
carriageways to improve access to City streets and most streets are
now wheelchair accessible. However, there are some locations where
this has not been possible either for engineering reasons or
because of redevelopment work.

There is a level main entrance to the West Wing with automatic
doors, leading to the Clock Museum, Guildhall Shop and Guildhall
Library. This entrance can be accessed from the Guildhall Yard or
from Aldermanbury / Gresham Street. All floors are accessible by
lift. Wheelchair accessible toilets are available on each floor,
including the ground floor reception area. The reception desk has a
hearing loop facility.
There is an accessible route to the Great Hall and platform
lifts to access the Crypts.
A wheelchair is available on request within the Guildhall. For

The North Wing has a level main entrance with revolving doors
and a pass door opened by pushing the pad on the post located in
front of the entrance in the Piazza, accessed from Basinghall
Street. Inside the entrance, there is an enclosed platform lift to
the ground floor level where reception staff are located. There is
a hearing loop facility at the reception desk.
There are a number of meeting rooms on the ground floor, all
with either a fixed loop or portable loop system available. There
are two accessible toilets on this floor.
The entrance is level from the Guildhall Yard through automatic
doors and there is access to all floors and accessible toilet
facilities by means of a lift.
Access to the Leisure Centre from street level is via a ramp or
steps from Fann Street, off of Goswell Road. The Centre is ramped
and wheelchair accessible. Facilities are located adjacent to the
entrance hall of the swimming pool. A pool hoist is available to
access the pool. In the swimming pool's communal changing areas
grabrails are provided in the showers and beside the changing

The Monument is currently closed for refurbishment and is due to
reopen early 2009. The Monument has 311 stone steps from street
level to the viewing platform. There is no lift access to the
viewing platform, but during the refurbishment a web cam with real
time view is being placed at the top of the orb, relaying images to
a remote screen at street level. The location of the screen is
currently being discussed.
Parking bays for blue badge holders are available in Monument
Street. A certificate is awarded to people who successfully climb
the 311 steps of the Monument. This is available in Braille and has
a raised tactile picture of the Monument. Tel 020 7626 2717.
The Museum entrance is located on a pedestrian high walk which
can be reached by stairs, escalators or lifts from Aldersgate
Street, London Wall or St Martins-le-Grand. The Museum is fully
accessible. Wheelchairs and powered scooters can be borrowed free
of charge.
Major renovation work is currently being undertaken to improve
access to the Cathedral.

The new City of London Visitor Information Centre is now open in
St. Paul’s Churchyard. There are automatic doors, a low level
section of the counter, and a hearing induction loop is available.

There is also a London tourist Board Tourist and Travel Centre
in Liverpool Street Station which is at concourse level.
As well as panoramic views across London, Tower Bridge has an
exhibition which brings the story of Tower Bridge to life. The main
entrance on Tower Bridge is level. 40-person lifts provide access
to all floors of the exhibition. Facilities are located in the
South Tower and Engine Rooms. Parking is prohibited on the
bridge.
An infra-red system is available which transmits information
about the Bridge to users carrying a hand held receiver. Although
this is not an induction loop system the volume and language of the
transmission can be altered to suit individual user requirements.

languages.
