The City strives to improve the built environment. It works with architects and developers to ensure a high standard in the design of buildings and spaces, carries out improvements to the street scene and preserves the historic environment.

Polices for design are included in our   Local Development Framework and  Unitary Development Plan

Environmental enhancement

The City promotes environmental enhancement schemes and public realm improvement projects. It operates the Street Scene Challenge to promote public/private partnership schemes to achieve these projects. View more information on environmental enhancement.

Historic environment

Protected views

Certain views of St Paul’s Cathedral, the Monument and the City's skyline are protected.  View more information on protected views

Trees

Trees contribute to the City’s townscape and many are protected. The location of protected trees can be viewed on the interactive City maps.

Designing out crime

The City Police offer the services of a Crime Prevention Design Advisor
