Household waste - disposal sites

Walbrook Wharf Waste Transfer Station is where waste collected by the City of London, from residents and businesses’ in the 'Square Mile', is taken for disposal.

The transfer station is located in Upper Thames Street, near Southwark Bridge.

The transfer station is only available for registered waste carriers 24 hours a day and is only closed on Christmas Day.

General waste collected from the City is compacted into ISO containers, taken down river for incineration at the energy from waste plant at Belvedere.  Commingled recycling is compacted into separate containers and sold to Ideal Waste Paper Co Ltd who sort the materials into component streams at their new facility at the Teardrop Centre Swanley.  The transfer station is operated by Cory Environmental Ltd under Waste Management Licence Number GTL/COR057.

Through an arrangement with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, City residents can use the Re-use and Recycling Centre at Northumberland Wharf, on the Isle of Dogs.
