The Pollution Team regularly monitors the quality of drinking
water in the City. The monitoring is performed on a monthly basis
as part of the London Wide Drinking Water Survey. Samples are
analysed for a range of parameters (roughly 40), covering chemical
and biological determinands.
There is a further sampling session each year where mains water
is subjected to a full analysis of over one hundred different
chemical and biological parameters. The mains water in the City has
achieved 100% compliance against all the parameters in the monthly
and annual testing for the last two years.

The Pollution Team also regularly monitors the quality of water
in all swimming baths and pools in the City to ensure they are safe
for swimmers. This includes all pools and spa pools in gyms, health
clubs, hotels, schools, hospitals as well as private, corporate and
public pools.
The parameters tested include chlorine level, bromine level, pH
concentration, temperature and the existence of certain bacteria.
This periodic testing ensures that the water quality complies with
national and European safety standards.
There are four premises in the City where untreated deep
groundwater is privately extracted from bore holes. Currently this
water is not used for drinking but for flushing toilets and for
hand washing only. The supplies are monitored on an annual basis.
There have been no unsatisfactory bacteriological results for more
than five years.
