The City of London's Economic Development Office has developed a
Local Procurement Charter (570kb) and
associated
Guidance Note (1mb) calling on
developers to source 10% of goods and services, relating to
development, from the City and its neighbouring boroughs. The
Local Procurement Charter seeks to encourage City developers and
their contractors to source locally and drive the economies of
local small to medium sized enterprises. This will in turn drive
local employment levels within the seven surrounding boroughs,
where up to 10% of the local population is unemployed.
The Local Procurement Charter has been supported by planning
agreements for new developments from autumn 2011.
This is in addition to the 'City
Procurement Project' pursuant to which the City provides
free support to City based business wishing to procure locally. It
does this by signposting to local supplier databases,
providing one to one advice and providing written guidance via
its Local Purchasing Toolkit and other
resources.
