Conservation Area Consultations


Character summaries and management strategies are being prepared for all the City's Conservation Areas.  They will analyse the special architectural and historical interest of each area and explain how the Core Strategy's polices will be applied in it.

They will be adopted as Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) and as part of the Local Development Framework (LDF).

A draft Bow Lane Conservation Area Character Summary and Management Strategy was made available for informal consultation from 1 February - 1 March 2012.  Further consultation on the document will follow in spring 2012.

Smithfield Conservation Area

A revised Smithfield Character Summary and Management Strategy was made available for informal consultation from 16 December 2011 - 3 February 2012.  Further consultation on the document will follow in spring 2012.

Next steps

Character summaries and management strategies are being prepared for the following conservation areas: Trinity Square, Foster Lane, Eastcheap, Fenchurch Street Station, and St Paul's Cathedral and will be available for comment on this page during 2012.

Character Summary and Management Strategy SPDs will be prepared for all remaining Conservation Areas in future years.  These will replace the current guidance for the areas.
