Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA)

The Comprehensive Performance Assessment regime ran for seven years from 2002 to 2008 with the final set of ratings awarded for performance during 2007/08. 

In March 2009, the City of London was rated under CPA for its performance during 2007/08 as ‘a council that is improving strongly and demonstrating a four-star overall performance’.

In each of the seven years of CPA, the City Corporation achieved the highest rating for overall performance (initially “excellent”, changing to “4 stars” from 2005).  In the first year of the direction of travel (2005), the City Corporation was rated as “improving well” and this was raised to “improving strongly” in 2006, where it remained for 2007 and 2008.  Further information on the City of London's CPA assessment for 2008 and previous years is available on the Audit Commission's website.

Annual Audit and Inspection

The Annual Audit and Inspection letter for the financial year 2007 / 08, containing a summary of the work of the external auditors, Audit Commission and other inspectors was issued in March 2009.

Corporate Assessment

In December 2007, the Audit Commission issued its report on the 2007 Corporate Assessment of the City of London Corporation.  This focused on the local authority services delivered by the City of London, and looked at how the City works corporately, and with its partners, to improve services and deliver improved outcomes for local people. The Commission awarded the City of London an overall rating of 4 - the highest rating available.
