The London Drug and Alcohol Policy Forum have just
published their latest publication Drugs at the Door
This document is a supplement to Safer Nightlife (national
guidance on managing substance misuse in the night time economy),
and gives specific advice on drug amnesty bin schemes and how
venues can implement these safely and within the law. This
publication follows a major project carried out in the City of
London working with the Substance Misuse Partnership, Police and
businesses which has gathered substances from the bins and sent
these for analysis, providing valuable information as to the type
of drugs being used locally and what cutting agents etc. these
contain.
A major part of the project has been to deliver training to door
and serving staff at these venues, improving their understanding of
drug use and boosting their capacity to respond to the challenge
drugs pose for the night time economy. Information gained from
these training has led the LDAPF to consult with the Securities
Industry Agency regarding future training of door staff and we are
looking to develop this into the future.
The guidance is aimed at all parties including the industry,
local authorities and the police who should be working together in
such schemes

Making it local
The London Drug and Alcohol Policy Forum working with Sara
McGrail and supported by the Home Office undertook a project to
look at the current and future roles of local partnerships - and
how well placed they are to maximise local resources and to respond
to the outcomes prioritised in Drugs: protecting families and
communities, The national drug strategy. This report, entitled
"Making it Local", explores the robustness of local partnerships;
to what extent they are able to deliver the new national drug
strategy and what Government needs to do to help partnerships work
better. The report also makes a number of recommendations for both
national and local agencies to consider.
