City of London Children who take part in television, filming, theatre, modelling and paid sporting activities must by law have been issued with a licence by the City of London Corporation. See the child performance licence page for more information.

In addition, they must be supervised at all times by an approved chaperone, unless they are under the direct supervision of a parent.

To become a chaperone, a person must demonstrate that they would look after the children in their care in the way a good parent would do. This means:

  • making sure the child is only working the hours allowed;
  • ensuring that a child is getting proper meals, rest and recreation when not performing;
  • calling a doctor if a child is unwell or injured and informing the parents and the Local Authority.

How do I apply to be a chaperone?

To apply please fill out the downloadable  application form (56kb) for City of London residents and send it to:

Education and Early Years
PO Box 270
Guildhall
London
EC2P 2EJ

If you do not live in the City of London you will need to contact your home Local Authority for an application form.
